Fear the Uncertain

In this world we face many uncertainties. But perhaps the greatest uncertainty of all is the human heart. And no, I'm not talking about the physical heart.

How do you tell someone how you feel? For some, it is an easy thing to do. For others, it is the most difficult thing in the world. However, even for those that are comfortable sharing their deepest affections, there are situations that even they hesitate.

What is this uncertainty? It is the unpredictable reactions born from the expression of one's feelings to another. Of course, this is not always uncertain. Uncertainty plays a part when you are treading unknown territories, when you are beginning to explore unfamiliar relationships.

Uncertainty gives birth to fear. If we were certain of another's reactions, then I suppose we will never be afraid to tell them how we feel. But no, lest you are psychic or a mind reader, you never will know until the act is done. Fear can deter even the most steadfast of hearts. If you are afraid of how they will react, feelings would never be expressed.

We can never stay silent, no matter how we try, no matter how hard we want to. It will come back and haunt you, unanswered questions of what if-s and maybe-s. I suppose it is a good thing to express the heart, be it in a direct approach, or beating around the bush.

We have to face the uncertain. We will be better for it. If not, then at least we have what they call "closure".
